President’s Awards at Scottish Open
President’s Awards were presented to two long serving supporters of the Scottish Brass Band Association during the recent Scottish Open Championships in Perth Concert Hall.
Stalwart of SBBA, Ian Gordon, received his award from SBBA president Carrie Boax and secretary Tom Allan in recognition of 60 years of service to the organisation. Ian was SBBA’s registrar for 17 years and was responsible for setting up the original card system which was operated out of shoe boxes!
Compere Alasdair Hutton OBE was given the award to mark his retirement from presenting Scottish contests after more than 20 years. Alasdair first started as master of ceremonies for the inaugural Borders entertainment contest in 2001. A former major in the Parachute Regiment, he was also presented with Mark Urban’s historical book Red Devils. His award was handed over by SBBA honorary vice president Peter Fraser MBE and Tom Allan.
