New Flugelhorn at Fairey’s
Fairey’s has welcomed Nicóla Shaw as the band’s new Flugelhorn player. Nicóla joins having completed eight successful years with Wingates Band. Her main highlights with the band include being chosen as the featured soloist at the recent Brass Pass Festival (Halifax) in July, along with the opportunity to perform in some of the UK’s most prestigious venues from a very young age, including The Royal Albert Hall London, Symphony Hall Birmingham and Sage Gateshead. In May this year, she won both the Open Slow Melody & Air Varie categories of the SWBBA solo contest.
Speaking of the appointment, Musical Director Adam Cooke said, "Nicóla has earned a growing reputation as a top class flugel player, and it was immediately clear that she was the perfect choice to join the band’s line up of soloists. I’m looking forward to being able to introduce Nicóla to our audiences at upcoming concerts in September and beyond."
Commenting on her new role, Nicóla said, "I’m extremely grateful for my years at Wingates and would like to take the time to thank them. I’m excited for my next chapter as Flugel with Fairey’s. Having been present with the band over the last months, there is such a positive atmosphere. It looks to be an exciting time for the band, and I feel so privileged to have been asked to be part of it, especially as a soloist.”
