Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue...

Educator, Dr. Richard Jones, takes a look at the new Associated Board trumpet syllabus.

The marriage of new, familiar and old returning favourites makes the 2017 Trumpet Syllabus for the ABRSM a far more enticing prospect than its predecessor. As stated in a previous issue, the examination board has certainly listened to its consumers; the pupils, teachers and the parents, and this is reflected in the changes seen throughout the grades. 

Looking at Grades 1 to 3, there are on average six changes to either list A or B, introducing all-in-one publications such as Shining Brass (ABRSM) and Grade By Grade (Boosey & Hawkes). As a teacher, I find that parents often get exasperated with having to buy book after book, especially in early grades, so this development certainly lessens this concern...
