Brass recording specialists
A world of digital sound and vision

Brass recording specialist, World of Sound, wants to help more bands achieve a wider audience through non-physical releases alongside the typical CD.

Said Recording Manager, Nicki Tonge: “As we approach the new season, we are very excited to offer new digital options to the brass band market across the World. Whilst we still continue to release CDs alongside digital releases on our sister labels, we see more opportunities available for self-funding groups in the digital world. We could film or live-stream concerts, rehearsals, master classes, soloists, or even events specifically for digital platforms. We’re happy to try to help bands, soloists and other groups negotiate this somewhat complex and confusing market place as we feel there are untapped ideas out there. You could opt to sell through iTunes, Amazon, Google Play and Vimeo, or perhaps try out Spotify and other streaming services. Maybe even a live concert on Facebook or YouTube sites.”

Recording audio and video for digital platforms requires a slightly different approach because there is obviously no need for final CD mastering, duplication, booklet origination or printing. Although most of the recording cost is attributable to the recording and editing processes, these also reduce if an artist takes the option to commission less than the hour-plus recorded material typically offered on CD.

Said World of Sound’s Producer and Senior Recording Engineer, Adam Goldsmith: “People want to consume art on multiple platforms, in multiple different ways. That shift away from physical product also takes away its limitations. The product can be whatever it needs to be and priced accordingly; releasing a shorter EP-type product could reduce recording time, and, therefore, also reduce cost and pressure on the group. It might also appeal more to the casual consumer, but that’s just one of a thousand possibilities!

“We believe that the brass band world outside of our in-house labels is ready and wants to take advantage of the digital platforms now available. World of Sound has the equipment and expertise to maximise those opportunities professionally. All things are possible - you just have to imagine them!”
