Music: A Little Prayer

Euphonium solo: Evelyn Glennie Arr. Dr. Robert Childs

A Little Prayer
Euphonium solo
Evelyn Glennie
Arranged by Dr. Robert Childs
Prima Vista Musikk

The modest, yet beautiful melodic lines of Evelyn Glennie’s A Little Prayer will already be familiar to many in the brass band movement from the popular full band arrangement. In this version, Robert Childs gives the euphonium the solo voice, the rich and mellow sound of the instrument proving a perfect match for this type of work. Following a short introduction from the band, the soloist states the melodic line over subtly scored accompaniment. Gradually, the texture thickens and the dynamic builds to a stirring climax with the soloist soaring over the band before receding, once again, to a tranquil close. The piece should be accessible to most bands and euphonium soloists seeking a simple, yet highly effective concert item.
