Premier timpani
5 models from Elite and Pro-Symphonic Seriesto the reliable Concert Series
Precision timpani, which deliver on stage and suit any budget, are still manufactured in Britain by Premier….
Premier continues to be one of the defining brands with percussion players around the world. With origins going back to the 1920s, Premier has a long and successful history of producing quality instruments including drum sets, snare drums, marching drums, timpani and tuned percussion. Today, its headquarters remain in Leicestershire, Premier’s home county for 80 years, and despite fierce competition the Company continues to manufacture its timpani in the Midlands.
Premier timpani bowls are crafted from one piece of copper without any seams or welding. Each size of timpani bowl is created from its own disc of raw copper mined for its purity and cut to Premier’s exacting specification, to enable the unique deep drawing spinning operation that creates the characteristic parabolic shape. The precision process ensures that the wall thickness does not vary around any diametric point.
The final stage is to form the bearing edge from the same parabola of copper and the parabolic shape is very important because the curve of the parabola is such that the sound-waves are reflected through a single focal point. Said Colin Tennant, Creative Manager/Artist relations for Premier: “Parabolic bowls produce darker, more natural tones, making them a preferred choice for orchestral use, as opposed to hemispheric bowls, which sound too bright.”
With five distinct models, ranging from the professional Elite and Pro-Symphonic Series to the reliable Concert Series, Premier offers a range of timpani that will suit any budget and deliver on the stage.
Said Colin Tennant: “In keeping production of timpani close to home, Premier has been able to create value for both its customers and consumers. Quality can be closely controlled to ensure the highest standards are maintained, whilst reliable lead-times have improved overall supply and availability, often fulfilling from stock.”
He added: “After-sales care continues to be an important service, offered to dealers, players and bands to ensure customer satisfaction, supported by a full inventory of spares.”
