A youthful French connection
The Tewit Youth Band, based in Huby near Harrogate, have just returned from a fantastic trip to Bagnes de Luchon in France to celebrate the ‘Fete des Fleurs’ (festival of flowers).
After a record breaking year, this wonderful youth band entertained the thousands of visitors to the festival with a virtuoso display of marching and playing of brass band classics and iconic tunes from the recent past. By the end of the festival, the whole French town was singing the Proclaimers anthem ‘Five Hundred Miles’, hand clapping and dancing in the streets under the inspirational direction of Musical Director Martin Hall.
This year sees an unprecedented number of the Senior Band leave due to age restrictions and so it was a fitting end to a very successful year, which has included a gold award at the Brass Band Nationals in May, a victory at the Ripon Entertainment contest, and a haul of prizes at the Whit Friday contests. The band has also performed at many venues over the last 6 months and have wowed the audiences with their professionalism and outstanding musicianship.
Tewit Youth band are made up of three bands within the organisation – Junior band, Intermediate band and Senior Band. They meet once a week and the members come from Harrogate and the surrounding area to practice and perform. More details can be found on their website www.tyb.org.uk
