Robert Childs departs Grimethorpe
Dr Robert Childs has resigned as Musical Director of Grimethorpe Colliery Band.
Having enjoyed a successful tenure with the South Yorkshire band, the Welsh MD has departed Grimethorpe to spend more time with his family in Wales.
Robert told BBW: "Having done the job for almost three years, the travelling has finally taken its toll. Commuting from South Wales to Yorkshire is a long journey and I’d like to spend more time at home with my family. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed working with Grimethorpe and wish the band every success in the future."
During Robert's time with Grimethorpe, he led the band to its first British Open victory since 1991, a record 16th Brass in Concert title, and many concerts including a successful tour of Australia.
Grimethorpe Colliery Band Trustee and long serving officer, Peter Haigh, told BBW: "We are sad to lose Bob as our Musical Director. He has worked hard during his time with us, achieving great things both on and off the conducting podium. We wish Bob and his family all the best for the future and will be announcing his successor in due course."
