Sun Sea and Brass
The acclaimed International Brass Band Summer School has returned to Swansea for its 26th course, and will be holding its end of course concert at Swansea University's Singleton campus on Friday 5th August.
Course Director, Professor Nicholas Childs, commented: "This year's band has over a 120 musicians gathered from 14 different countries, with our first ever delegates from Lithuania and from as far a field as Australia, Japan, USA, Norway, Switzerland and throughout Europe, not forgetting the Principality of Wales."
The musicians in the band are genuinely world-class, with many of Europe's leading bands including Black Dyke, Eikanger, BBO, sending their talented young musicians to have their skills honed by tutors including Richard Marshall, Tom Hutchinson, Gary Curtin, David Thornton, Owen Farr, Brett Baker, Chris Turner and Joseph Cook.
This year’s Guest Musician is internationally renowned composer, Edward Gregson and said Nicholas Childs: "Edward brings a wealth of experience from many genres of music, and his attendance and Master Class are eagerly awaited by all the delegates. He will also make an appearance on the conducting podium at the end of course concert.”
Course Administrator, Alison Childs, also paid tribute: “The IBBSS would like to take this opportunity of thanking their principal partners: Besson, World of Brass, Rath Trombones, Geneva, Kapitol Promotions, Trevada Music, The British Bandsman, SHB Hire and GK Design. We would also like to thank the brass band music publishing houses for their generosity, including Prima Vista Musikk, Kirklees and Obrasso.”
The end-of-course concert this Friday (5th) includes Edward Gregson’s Laudate Dominum, plus favourites including Liberty Bell and I Walk with God. The concert will be held at Swansea University, Singleton Campus, Fulton House and admission is free.
