Musicians set to scale Ben Nevis

Musicians from Inverclyde brass band to scale the heights for Cheltenham

Seven members of Brass Sounds Inverclyde will climb Ben Nevis, the UK’s highest peak, with instruments and music to stage a one-hour performance at the summit, sometime in early July. The exact date is dependent on weather conditions being suitable and safe for such a venture. Those making the ascent will carry and play cornets, flugel and tenor horns, trombone, euphonium and even a tuba! The effort will raise funds for the band's trip to the National Brass Band Championships in Cheltenham in September. A Kickstarter page has been set up for people to make donations.

A spokesperson from the band stated, "As far as we know, this has never been attempted before. The group members are getting fit by taking regular runs, fast walks, and by hiking up hills with heavy rucksacks. Those who are involved in brass band circles know that winning a British/regional brass band contest is a rarity, often a once-in-a-lifetime experience for many brass musicians. Being invited to Cheltenham to participate in the 'nationals' is a real privilege, and we are determined to go there and do our utmost."
