New Principal Cornets for Leyland and Blidworth

Leyland Band is happy to announce a number of recent signings, headlined by cornet star Iain Culross returning to the band on Principal Cornet.

Returning to Leyland is just like going home for me really, so the opportunity to rejoin the band was an offer I couldn’t refuse. I’m really looking forward to working with the band and Thomas Wyss.”  Iain Culross.

Another former Leyland member making a return is Sarah Brooks.  Joining on 2nd horn, Sarah was formerly with Leyland on percussion before playing tenor horn full time.  Also joining will be the talented young cornet player Liv Appleton.  Starting at the RNCM in September, the Fodens Youth Band member will be joining on 2nd cornet.

The band is sad to be losing Steve Taylor from the back row after two years of service, as well as Anthony Higham from 2nd horn.

We are sad to see Steve and Anthony stepping away the band.  Both are fantastic players and we wish them all the best for the future.  The band and I are very excited to welcome Liv to the band, as well as welcoming back Sarah and Iain.  I am sure that they will prove to be brilliant signings and look forward to working with them”  Thomas Wyss – Musical Director

Meanwhile National Finalists, The Blidworth Welfare Band, are pleased to announce the signing of its own new principal cornet player in advance of its visit to Cheltenham and promotion back to the Championship Section in January. Neil Escott is an excellent and experienced player and a welcome addition to strengthen the band further. He joins us from Shirebrook band and has previously been at Newstead Brass as well as other local midlands bands. We look forward to working with Neil as we prepare for upcoming contests and concerts.
