Forty Years at Fairlop
Fairlop Brass enjoyed a full and fruitful festive season supporting a number of community events as well as raising funds for local charities. December was bookended by two particularly special events, beginning with entertaining visitors on the Ongar to Epping steam railway. A spokeperson for the band explained, “Some of the band spread the festive cheer at the Epping Ongar Railway! And what a great if slightly damp day it was. We played four sets as visitors arrived on vintage buses until it was all aboard and the trains were ready for the off.”
The band also found time to provide the post-Christmas dinner entertainment for members of the Chigwell Golf Club, perform at a packed Holy Trinity Barkingside Carol Service as well as helping to raise £1,000 at St. Nicholas Church Kelvedon Hatch for the Church and St. Francis Hospice.
The band’s final foray in 2024 was the 'Christmas Crackers Concert' which was an outstanding success. It was sold out well in advance and on the night an appreciative audience joined in an evening of carols and festive favourites. The evening was particularly poignant as it included a special presentation to mark the 40th anniversary of Kevin Jordan as MD with the band he’s been associated with since 1968. A band representative was keen to comment on the band’s gratitude, “The Christmas Crackers Concert was the last full band concert of Kevin's 40th Year as Musical Director, and we marked this with gifts including a photo book capturing highlighted memories. Thank you for 40 years and continuing commitment to the band Kevin.”
