New Musical Ventures for Garry Hallas
The five-year musical partnership between Garry Hallas and Yorkshire Imperial Band has come to an end. Having stepped in the take a depleted ensemble to the British Open Spring Festival in 2019, he was the driving force behind the band's successful reinvigoration following the loss of their long-term sponsorship from David Urquhart Travel.
Commenting on his departure Gordon explained, “I'm devastated to be stepping down at this time, but things are not as aligned for me as they have been. I wish the new band management team every success.”
Since this announcement Chapeltown Silver Prize Band have issued a statement on social media stating that the band is “thrilled to announce that Garry Hallas will take on our Musical Director post with immediate effect. Garry has been a friend of the band for many years, on and off the stage. He brings a wealth of experience and an excellent record of musical directorship to Chapeltown, and we can't wait to get back in the bandroom in the new year with him.”
Garry will be joined by his wife Liz as she brings her own musical skills to the front row. This signing brings further strength to the band’s cornet section. Preparations for the 2025 Regional Championships will commence in early January with Garry and Liz both in the bandroom.
