Milnrow bid fond farewell to Gordon Clark
In a statement on social media a Milnrow Band bade a fond farewell to Gordon Clark: “The band would like to say a huge thank you to our solo Eb Bass player, Gordon Clark. Gordon has made the decision to retire from brass banding after 54 years.”
Gordon has been a member of the band for 12 years and has been a huge part of the band’s success, including 2 national final performances, winning the Grand Shield, being a part of all appearances at the British Open, winning the Masters and more recently, winning the Scottish Open.
As well as excellent performances on and off the contest stage, Gordon has been a true bandsman. He is always one of the first people at the band room for rehearsals and is always there to help move equipment for concerts. To honour his 54 years' service to brass banding, the North West Brass Band Association presented Gordon with a medal and certificate. Over the years he has been a part of Portsmouth City, Solent Concert, The National Youth Brass Band, Woodfalls, Tadley, British Telecom, Wingates and Milnrow.
Milnrow Musical Director, Chris Binns, described Gordon as a, “top player, top musician, top bandsman and more importantly a top bloke! Enjoy your retirement Gordon and we will all miss you!”
