EIBBSS Conducting Pathway
Do you want to learn how to conduct, or develop your existing conducting skills? The Elgar International Brass Band Summer School is introducing a ‘Conducting Pathway’ that will run alongside the usual performing pathway on the 2025 Summer School. This pathway is open to anyone, regardless of conducting experience.
Initially there will be a full day of classroom and rehearsal sessions with the tutor ensemble, covering all aspects of conducting, including baton technique; study of some of the great masters; score reading; rehearsal technique; people management and artistic vision. Following on there will be daily opportunities to observe Philip's rehearsals, conduct the delegates’ bands with feedback from Philip, and a regular daily group tutorial with your fellow conducting students. During the final concert you will have the opportunity to introduce and conduct a piece with one of the delegate's bands of 60 people on stage in the Routh Hall at Bromsgrove School.
Commenting on the new venture Philip Harper stated, "I am passionate about developing and nurturing banding leadership talent, and I'm delighted to be able to offer this pathway. We have five places available, and we warmly invite applications from all genders. Applications will be by video and depend more on your potential leadership qualities than on any conducting experience, so if you think this could be you - or even if you don't know yet - we'd love to hear from you!"
