Carter’s mile-a-day challenge

Whitburn Heartlands’ newest member is embarking on his own fund-raising challenge in support of Whitburn’s development bands. Since October 20th young Carter Burchill has been running one mile a day, and will continue every day right up to the Scottish Youth Brass Band Championships in Perth on 24 November. For the third cornet player that’s a total of 35 miles as part of a wider fund-raising effort by the Whitburn organisation in aid of uniforms, travel, instruments, music etc.

Carter joined Whitburn Youth Band in August 2022 and has just moved into the Heartlands Band. Over the past two years, he has made many friends, played in some amazing concerts and contests and been taught and mentored by a team of players including those in the championship band. “The Whitburn organisation means a lot to him and the other young people who attend,” said fellow cornet player Donald Morrison. “The band hall is a home from home where, at rehearsals, Carter is the unlucky player who has to sit next to Whitburn’s grumpiest player – me! So, a huge well done and please support Carter on his fundraising.”

Any sponsorship you can make will be greatly appreciated by Carter. Please message Donald Morrison via the Whitburn Heartlands Band Facebook page who will collect any donations or pass the band’s account details over so you can transfer directly.
