GUS return for Sarah Lenton

The GUS Band has announced a welcome return to Sarah Lenton who will be joining the band on Solo Baritone. It is fantastic to be able to welcome back Sarah Lenton, who previously played with the band between the ages of 13 and 18.

Having started playing at the age of 5, Sarah played in both the National Children’s band of Great Britain and the National Youth brass band of Great Britain, completing a total of 12 consecutive courses. Sarah went on to study at the Royal Northern College of Music and has played and competed with many of the top-flight bands, including Fairey, Foden’s, Leyland, Grimethorpe Colliery and most recently, Brighouse and Rastrick. In 2016, Sarah competed at the European Solo Competition, where she reached the semi-finals and was crowned Best Baritone. Now settled back in her home county of Cambridgeshire, Sarah enjoys spending time with her little boy Freddie, and is thrilled to be rejoining the band after a 14 year hiatus.

GUS Resident Conductor Christopher Bond commented “It is an absolute pleasure to welcome Sarah back to the band as we embark on preparations for Brass in Concert. My particular thanks to Andrew Rigby who has been an outstanding Solo Baritone and with his move to 2nd Baritone, it really does strengthen the section immeasurably as we look ahead.”

The GUS band would also like to extend their gratitude to Andrew Rigby, who has now moved onto 2nd Baritone, for his very successful tenure of the Solo Baritone chair and to William Neeve who has recently helped the band through this period of transition.
