Fanfare Team Announced for National Finals

The Fanfare Team of The Band of the Royal Air Force College will represent RAF Music at the Royal Albert Hall for the Championship Section Final of the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain, and will herald the National Champion Band announcement during the event’s Results Ceremony.

One of many prestigious engagements supported by the Fanfare Team all over the country and indeed, the World, recent highlights have included musicians from each of the three Regular bands (Central Band of the RAF, Band of the RAF Regiment, and Band of the RAF College) performing as part of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s 'Platinum Party at the Palace’ and, subsequently, in Westminster Abbey for the Coronation of Their Majesties King Charles Ill and Queen Camilla (The Royal Family). Notably, Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber composed a new fanfare especially for this occasion.

The Band of the RAF College has had a reputation of musical and military excellence since its formation in 1920, maintained by the bands' support for State Ceremonial events, and performances in the country's most prestigious theatres and concert halls, which raise funds for Service chanties. Regular performances in venues, such as Lincoln Cathedral and the Central Church of the RAF, St Clement Danes, provide the perfect setting for a variety of music.
In addition to domestic engagements, the Band of the RAF College has also been busy internationally.

In June 2024, a brass ensemble travelled to Bangkok in Thailand to perform at the King's 'Birthday Reception' at the British Embassy. In the same month, the RAF Music Services played a hugely significant role supporting the D-Day 80th Anniversary commemorations in Normandy, broadcast live on the BBC, paying tribute to the fallen at the Commonwealth War Graves, Bayeux, and the British Normandy Memorial at Ver-Sur-Mer.
