Grimethorpe goes Underground

A small group of musicians from Grimethorpe Colliery Band recently returned underground (460 feet underground), to at the National Coal Mining Museum for England. The sextet visited Caphouse Colliery as part of a promotion campaign for its sold-out concert this weekend that marks the 40th anniversary of the Miners’ Strike.

Dr John Tanner from the National Coal Mining Museum stated,"It's really an important time now looking back at those challenging times and what the coal industry meant. To do that with Grimethorpe is very special indeed for us."

The promotion was broadcast on television as part of the line up for ITV's regional ‘Calendar’ show. The group’s appearance, including footage of the Grimethorpe ensemble rehearsing ‘David of the White Rock’ in the mine shaft, can be seen at approximately 17 minutes in via this link.
