Cornet Extravaganza in Glasgow 

Cornet players of all abilities and ages are invited to attend a Cornet Extravaganza event organised and led by Hedley Benson, Rebecca Wilson and Gareth Bowman on Saturday 12 October in Glasgow. 
 
Hedley Benson is co-principal trumpet with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra. He began playing the cornet in Yorkshire with the Hammond's Sauce works junior band. He has gone on to play principal cornet with Whitburn, Glasgow CWS and Faireys band as well as playing guest principal for many of the UK top bands and orchestras. 
 
Rebecca Paterson is a professional trumpet player, teacher and conductor from Ayr. She began playing in brass bands at the age of 12 with the Dalmellington Band and has held the principal cornet chair there for the last 10 years. She has made appearances with bands such as the cooperation band, Whitburn and Brass Band Schonhoven as well as working with several orchestras in Scotland and further afield. She currently holds the position of musical director with Kilmarnock Concert Brass. 
 
Gareth Bowman is a Glasgow-based conductor, pianist, composer and music educator.  He has conducted the Coalburn Silver Band for over 20 years and tutors at the National Youth Brass Band of Scotland. 
 
The day will include a mass warm-up, cornet ensemble, cornet chat, workshops and short concert performance. There will opportunities to ask questions and get feedback on all aspects of playing and performance. Players are invited to arrive from 9.45am and should bring their cornet and a music stand.  Tea, coffee, juice and biscuits will be provided during a short break. The day will finish with solo performances from Hedley and Rebecca and the mass cornet ensemble led by Gareth at 12.30pm. All attendees will receive a certificate of participation.
