New signings make their mark at Markham and District Band 

The Markham and District band from Blackwood South Wales, announced new signings following their recent success at the National Eisteddfod of Wales, where the band gained its first podium place for a number of years. 
 
Joining on Solo Horn, is Rob Sweet, and ex player of Markham, who rejoins the band from Lewis Merthyr. Rob will sign on Solo Horn, having previously spent time on cornet / flugel with the Blackwood based band. Although a new challenge for Rob, he is very much looking forward to what lies ahead, and is confident he can make a significant contribution to the progress of the band. 
 
Joining on Repiano is Karen Davies. Karen joins the band from Tylorstown band having played for the Rhondda based band for the past 13 years. During her 13 year spell, Karen was a pivotal part in the bands unprecedented success that saw them amongst other accolades win both the 2nd Section and 1st Section National titles.  
 
Also Joining is Phil Lucas on Solo Euphonium. Phil made his debut in the Eisteddfod for Markham contributing greatly to the band's result, having joined from Oakdale Band earlier in the year. Phil is also a former member of The Royal Welsh Regimental Band. 
The band would also like to thank Wyn Howells, Emily Peeke and Allen Coates for changing positions in order to accommodate the new signings. 
 
Musical Director Gary Davies commented, “I'd like to welcome all three players to Markham and I look forward to working with them. All 3 players have strengths that will undoubtable help Markham progress over the coming years.”
