Scottish visit for Faroe Islands School Band
A school band from the Faroe Islands will be visiting Scotland soon. During the four-day trip on 12-16 September the band will be performing in concerts with the youth ensembles of Clackmannan District Brass and Dalmellington Band.
Hornorkestrid á Skúlatrød is a school band from Klaksvík, the second largest town of the Faroe Islands with a population of 5,090 which is twinned with Wick in the north of Scotland. The visiting pupils will be performing three concerts during their Scotland adventure, starting with a concert at the Devonvale Hall in Tillicoultry on Friday 13 September with the youth ensembles of Clackmannan District Brass at 7.30pm. On Sunday 15 September the Dalmellington Brass Academy will team up with the touring school band for a concert at the New Lanark World Heritage Site in South Lanarkshire ML11 9DB, starting at 12pm.
Clackmannan youth sections secretary Phil Lamb explained, “The band contacted us just before Easter via the Clackmannan District Brass website and asked if we would be interested in taking part in a joint concert with them during their tour of Scotland. Of course we jumped at the chance to get the youth ensembles involved with such an event, allowing the band members to engage with players from another country and cultural background.”
Clackmannan president Debbie Ross added: “I am very excited about this visit. It's brilliant that the band chose the 'wee county' as one of its tour destinations, having spotted our youth sections set up on our band website. It's a great opportunity for our youth sections to host such a prestigious event. It'll be an excellent learning experience for us all.”
