BBE Conference Fringe Events

The Brass Band Conference 2024 has been extended with additional online events being added to the programme. The Conference Fringe will offer further opportunities for learning as well as open up the Conference for those who are unable to attend the event in-person on 19 October in London. Participation in the Conference Fringe will be free for Conference delegates as well as any BBE members.

BBE Chief Operating Officer, Sarah Baumann, says, “We had so many fantastic proposals for sessions this year that we didn’t have space to schedule into the event day, so we’ve extended the Conference with a number of online sessions in the run-up to the main day in London. I hope that this will give more of our member bands, and the wider sector, the opportunity to join in the conversation on ‘Creative Communities’.”

In addition to three webinars in the run up, we will also host a members virtual meet-up the following week to continue the opportunity for networking and discussion on the conference theme of ‘Creative Communities’.

For those wanting to attend in person BBE is this year offering travel bursaries. An event organiser explained, “To help keep The Brass Band Conference accessible to bands across the country, we are pleased to be able to offer a limited number of travel bursaries for this year’s event, set to take place on Saturday 19 October at China Exchange, London. Due to funding restrictions, we can only extend this offer to English bands this time around. Depending on proximity from London, individual’s in BBE Member Bands or those with Individual Membership can apply for:

- Up to £50 for those based within miles 75 miles
- £75 for those based within miles 100 miles
- £100 for those based further than 100 miles

“Bursaries are limited and funds are not guaranteed, however, should you apply for a bursary and be unsuccessful we will try to prioritise you or members of your band should support for future events become available. We expect to be able to offer 5 - 10 bursaries for 2024, only available to BBE members. Depending on application numbers, we may choose to limit bursaries to one per band.”

Please apply by 9am on Monday 2 September. Successful applicants will be contacted that week and funds will be granted in October, after the Conference, on submission of relevant travel receipts.
