£2,000 boost to Croy Silver
Croy Silver Band has received a £2000 boost to its coffers following a donation from Scotland-based house builder Miller Homes through its community fund initiative. The band is regarded as a much-loved and valued part of the community, providing musical entertainment and pleasure to audiences for almost 150 years. Croy Silver offers free tuition to anyone who wishes to play a brass band instrument and current members range in age from 18 to 70. In addition to performing at a variety of concerts, many of the band’s engagements are at the heart of the community, seeing the group supporting charitable organisations, playing at the church and at events of remembrance.
Carol Devlin, Croy Silver’s secretary, said: “We were delighted to hear that we have been awarded money from the Miller Homes Community Fund. This generous funding will help with our rehearsal room and storage costs for the next twelve months, allowing our fundraising efforts to be focused on other costs, such as instrument repairs, new music, and taking up our invitation to the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain later this year.”
Miller Homes’ Community Fund, which is now in its second year and fourth round of funding, invites applications for funding from charities and community groups across the country. To date, Miller Homes Scotland has supported almost 100 local groups near its developments, with over £63,000 donated to worthy causes across the country. Andrew McArthur, regional operations director for Miller Homes Scotland West, said: “We’re pleased to be able to support causes which are so close to the communities we’re building in, and the community fund has become an important part of how we do business.”
