Thoresby appoints Pallister as MD

Thoresby Colliery Band has announced the appointment of Luke Pallister as its new Musical Director. Luke has enjoyed a long relationship with the band having previously played cornet with the First Section Midlands band. Commenting on his new position Luke stated, "It's with great pride that I've accepted the role. I'm excited to see how well we can do in 2025. The future is looking bright."

A spokesperson for the band stated on social media, "Luke brings a wealth of experience, having previously performed with top bands including Grimethorpe Colliery, Leyland and Foden's. We are very pleased to announce him as our new Musical Director."

Founded 75 years ago the Thoresby Colliery Band has been a source of pride for the region, enchanting audiences with its captivating performances and preserving the rich heritage of playing high quality music in the community. However, recently the band has faced challenges not least the theft of their van, essential for transporting equipment, music, and instruments to various performance venues across the Midlands and beyond. Jools Ritchie (Band Manager) said “the theft of the van is a real kick; we rely upon the dedication of the band members to travel wherever required, but the logistics of moving large instruments and huge amounts of percussion kit is something we cannot do without our van”.

Therefore, the band, a self-supporting charity, relying on the donations, sponsorship, and performance fees to operate, is launching an appeal to replace their van. All help would be gratefully received whether it be a donation however, large or small (via local giving), expertise or any practical assistance. The band is committed to preserving their musical heritage and is rallying together in its fundraising initiatives, to not only replace their stolen van, but to emerge stronger, delivering music of the highest calibre and representing their corner of the Region in the most positive way.
