Victoria State Championships

Congratulations to Darebin City-Preston Band on winning the top section at the recent Victoria State Championships. The event was held last weekend in Hawthorn with Darebin retaining its title and reclaiming the trophy against strong competition from runners-up Gleferrie Brass.

A spokesperson from Darebin commented on the success, “Darebin City Brass - Preston Band is absolutely thrilled to be awarded the Victorian State A Grade title for 2024! To make this victory sweeter, the band achieved the milestone of most consecutive Victorian A grade state championship wins, alongside the most awarded Victorian A Grade conductor, Mr Andrew Snell. We’re highly grateful for Andrew’s commitment to us. The drive and passion he has for musical excellence at every rehearsal is a key ingredient to our ongoing success. A massive thank-you to the Victorian Bands' League and in particular Megan Stapleton for all your hard work and organisation over the weekend! Also, a huge well done to Boroondara Brass, Footscray Yarraville City Band and Glenferrie Brass for making this a true competition and continuing to push us!”

The event organisers were delighted with the event and made the following statement on social media, “Congratulations to all the bands who competed across the weekend for your wonderful performances. Thanks to our adjudicators Ken MacDonald, Jackie Hartenberger and Louisa Lawless for your expertise and thoughtful comments. A huge thank you also to our wonderful team of volunteers - 35 volunteers representing 17 different bands. We couldn’t run this event without the hard work of our volunteers! Looking forward to doing it all again next year!”
