Grimethorpe Appoints Ben Dixon as Resident MD
Grimethorpe Colliery Band has announced the appointment of Ben Dixon as its new Musical Director. A former player of the band, Ben brings a unique perspective and a deep understanding of the band's commitment to innovation and excellence in brass band music.
Band Manager, Andy Kennedy commented, "We are very excited to be able to announce Ben as our new Musical Director. Being a former player of the band Ben understands the value of our ambition to be at the forefront of developing new musical ideas. He also gets what it means to perform to sell-out venues up and down the country and is already proving himself as a hit with our audiences. We are looking forward to a long and fruitful relationship with Ben as our MD."
Ben’s history with the band, his passion for brass band music and his instant audience connection made him the perfect candidate for the role. Commenting on his appointment Ben stated, “I am delighted to have been given this opportunity to work with such a fantastic band. When the opportunity to work with a band that is close to my heart and one of most famous bands in the world was offered to me, then it was a relatively easy decision to make. I am also extremely passionate about further developing the exciting young talent that we have in our youth bands as well as continuing to deliver concerts of the highest quality. I am looking forward to working with Michael Bach and we will be working tirelessly to ensure the band has consistent success, both on the concert and contest stages.”
Alongside Michael Bach as Professional Conductor and Ben as Musical Director, the vastly experienced Brian Grant will also be working with the band occasionally to complete the conducting team.
