Kingdom Brass Showcases ‘VINCENT’
Renowned musician Katrina Marzella took to the stage leading Kingdom Brass as part of an exciting collaborative project last night (Friday 17th May) at the Adam Smith Theatre. Sharing the stage with hosts, Burntisland & Kinghorn Rotary Club, Dysart Colliery band and Kingdom Youth Brass Band, the event was a successful fundraising event for local food banks.
The event featured a new piece of brass theatre in the form of a 30-minute brass suite for brass band and actor, called ‘VINCENT’. Elizabeth McNally provided dialogue which was paired with original music for brass to tell the story of the turbulent and incredible life of Vincent Van Gogh. The life story of the troubled artist was portrayed through the eyes of his sister-in-law, Jo Van Gogh, known to many as ‘the woman who made Vincent famous’. The music comprised works from acclaimed composers Philip Wilby Lucy Pankhurst Jonathan Bates Ben Hollings Gilbert Vinter Howard Snell. One audience member stated, “It was incredible to just reflect in the storytelling and then listen to the band play.”
Commenting on the success of the venture Katrina shared, “It’s been a joy working creatively with Spotlight Actor Elizabeth McNally on this new piece of brass music theatre. All the works featured were original pieces for brass band, which I think is pretty cool and important. Thanks to all the composers for their incredible music. It’s been an amazing creative ride.”
