UKLBF makes announcement following its meeting

The UK Leading Bands Forum has released a press announcement following its recent meeting on 13 December 2023 - the first since its inaugural formation meeting on 10 November 2023. The announcement states:

The UK Leading Bands Forum (UKLBF) met on 13th Dec 2023, the first meeting since its inaugural formation meeting in November. There were several items on the agenda, all of which had been brought up by member bands for discussion, with the aim of representing the bands’ views and opinions to the main contest organisers and decisionmakers in the brass band world.

The item of how the UKLBF can become a voice for all bands in the UK was discussed. The aim was reiterated that, via the UKLBF, bands from all levels should have a visible pathway to feed their views through to decision-makers.

To facilitate this, a framework of contacts for bands in each region will be developed to act as a liaison for pertinent matters and, having collated views, the Regional Contact Band will then present these views to the regular meeting of the UKLBF which will then
be communicated directly to contest organisers and decision-makers as appropriate.

The general subject of adjudication was also discussed, having been consulted amongst all the bands during the previous month. A proposal of necessary qualities and expectations of judges and judging panels was provisionally agreed, with the aim set of
identifying and meeting decision-makers to share the UKLBF’s opinion in the first weeks of 2024.

Other issues were also discussed in a lively, constructive and well-attended meeting which took place online. The Forum’s next meeting will be held on 17th January 2024.

15th December 2023
