Euphonium and Baritone Additions at Wantage Band

Wantage Band has announced two new additions to the euphonium and baritone line ahead of their festive engagements. The band would like to publicly thank Eddie Hindson for all his amazing performances over the past couple of years on Solo Baritone, most recently featured as the bands soloist at Wychavon Festival of Brass where the band achieved second place in the championship section. Eddie leaves to focus on his A Levels and university entrance exams. Imogen Fewster (Solo Baritone) and James Adcock (Solo Euphonium) have been welcomed to the band during the last few weeks as the newest members of the band. Band Manager, Gav Clemons, stated, “We’re delighted to appoint Imogen and James to these two principal seats in the band. They are both quality players and it’s been great getting to know them!”

Imogen started at Oxford University earlier this term having moved from York. Previously she played Solo Baritone with Shepherd Group Brass Band and the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain. She is also a young ambassador for Mercer & Barker.  Commenting on her new role Imogen stated, “I'm so excited to be joining this group of amazing musicians and wonderful people. I have been made to feel so welcome and can’t wait for the concerts and contests coming up!”

James started playing in the Salvation Army with Hendon Band under Steve Cobb. After leaving school, James moved to Birmingham, studying at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire graduating in 2017. James Adcock is an Events Manager at St Hilda's College, Oxford and takes up this position from Kidlington Concert Brass where he has played for the last few years. James added, “I’m very excited to have joined the band. After attending several rehearsals, it is clear there is a fantastic group commitment to the work they do in the local community as well as a strong desire to compete at the top level in contests - everyone is very friendly too! I look forward to getting stuck in and I’m excited to improve my own playing working with Chris and the band.”

With a weekend of almost sold out Snowman concerts coming up very soon, lots of carolling and a concert with the popular Hampshire Harmony, there is a lot going on before the band get a break for Christmas. MD Chris King welcomed the newcomers commenting, “I’ve got great plans for the Wantage Band, and Imogen and James are the missing ingredients in our special formula! I’m so glad they have come to us.  Great players – great people – what more could I ask?”
