Composition Competition launched by the Band of the Prince of Wales

The Band of the Prince of Wales has announced the launch of its Composition Competition. Applicants are to compose or arrange a work inspired by Wales. It should be between 3-5 minutes in duration and composed or arranged for 10-piece brass ensemble plus percussion. The standard instrumentation to be used is 4x Bb Trumpet/Cornets, 1x Eb Horn, 2x Tenor Trombones, 1x Bass Trombone, 1x Euphonium and 1x Eb Bass. Percussion should be manageable by one player or two players providing the second part is not essential. Standard doubling is permissible such as 1st Trumpet in Eb or 4th Trumpet swapped for flugel horn.

The winning composition will be performed by the Band of the Prince of Wales during their St David's Day Concert on 1st March 2024 at Theatr Brycheiniog, Brecon and will be published by Superbrass Music. The competition will close at 12:00 on 12th January 2024 with entries submitted to dewi.kinsey102@mod.gov.uk The competition is open to all musicians (both civilian and military) aged 18 and over on the closing date of the competition.

All submissions must be original works. If plagiarism is discovered, the competitor will be disqualified from the competition. Submissions should be no less than 2 mins in length and no more than 5 mins. Each competitor should submit a pdf score and MP3 file of their work. The scores will be judged anonymously. The judges' decision is final. No appeals to the result will be accepted.
