New MD at Grimethorpe
Grimethorpe Colliery Band has announced the appointment of Michael Bach as its new Professional Musical Director. Michael has taken the band at its last three major contest appearances, culminating in a fine fourth place finish at the recent British Open Championships in Birmingham.
A spokesperson for the band stated, “Everyone is really excited to be working with Michael on a long-term basis. He will visit the band four times a year which will include all the major competitions as well as other high-profile performances. We are also very pleased that we now have a conducting team in place that will help us compete for more major championship prizes in the years to come. Michael joins Steve Phillips, our Resident Musical Director in a partnership that has already shown that at the British Open."
Commenting on his appointment Michael stated, “The appointment as Professional Conductor of such a famous and world-renowned band as Grimethorpe Colliery is of course a great honour for me, and I look forward to being able to realise many exciting projects with the band. I will strive to continue and add to the great musical legacy of the band, especially in terms of repertoire development with new music, but of course not without neglecting the competitions.”
