Wingates to Celebrate 150 years with Moore

The Wingates Band has announced that it will be sharing the stage with trombone virtuoso and former Wingates Band member, Peter Moore at the band’s forthcoming 150th Celebration Concert.

Peter needs little introduction, hailing from Belfast, Northern Ireland, he was brought up by his brass banding family in Stalybridge, Greater Manchester. Commenting on his traditional brass band background Peter stated, “Some of my earliest memories are of watching brass bands in the park, when I fell for the trombone straight away. My family were all involved in music one way or another and they actually tried to steer me away from it! However, my persistence paid off!”

Already a burgeoning talent on the trombone, he was catapulted into the public eye when he won the BBC Young Musician of the Year in 2012. He remains the youngest winner of the competition to date. On leaving Chetham’s School of Music Peter was appointed as co-principal trombonist at the London Symphony Orchestra, which at the tender age of 18, made him the ensemble’s youngest ever member. In addition to his extensive solo, ensemble and orchestral performing career, Peter is also Professor of Trombone at the Royal Academy of Music in London. Peter is a Getzen International Artist and performs on the 4147IB trombone.

The concert will take place on the evening of Saturday 4th November 2023 at Bolton Parish Church. Tickets can be reserved by emailing: wingatesbrassband@gmail.com or phoning 07720 441552.
