Deinolen wins National Eisteddfod

The National Eisteddfod of Wales took place earlier this month in Boduan, Gwynedd where the brass band events took place on the main performance stage and were aired (with subtitles) on the S4C Welsh language television. This year with the joint Championship/First Section title was won by the Deiniolen Band. Led by Lois Eifion Jones, the band won the Flintshire Territorial Army Cup and £750 first prize for the first time since 2013. The 20-minute set included 'Visions of Kolkhis', the flugel solo 'Libertango' played by Tomos Efans, the Welsh hymn tune 'Gwahoddiad' and 'Phoenix' by Peter Grahm. Northop Silver was runner-up whilst Cheltenham First Section national finalist Beaumaris was third.

There were no entries in what would have been a joint Second/Third Section, however three bands competed in the Fourth Section with the title and £500 first prize won by Holywell Band. Two bands also entered the inaugural youth contest providing 15-minute programmes, with Beaumaris Youth Band winning the Ivor Jarvis Trophy and £500 prize money.
