Trinity Arts Awards opportunity for NYBBS Children’s band members

The Scottish Brass Band Association has announced that it will be running the Trinity Arts Awards scheme with its Children’s band during its National Youth Brass Band of Scotland (NYBBS) summer school this week.

SBBA is a new centre for the delivery of the Trinity Arts Awards and is proud to announce that its newly appointed Trinity Adviser will be Carole Ednie who will work exclusively with the players in the Children’s band throughout the week. Carole Ednie is a former member of NYBBS and plays solo baritone with Glasgow-based the cooperation band. She is a passionate musician and educator who believes music is a universal language that connects everyone. Her career started at the age of five playing the cornet before moving on to play the baritone and going on to play in many bands including Buckhaven & Methil Miners and within the Tullis Russell organisation. Under the tutelage of Tony Swainson, Carole graduated in 2021 with a Bachelor of Education (Hons) with Music degree from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and is now a full-time music teacher with Fife Council.

The Trinity Arts Awards offer learning and qualifications which support individual development and increase young people’s experiences and understanding of the arts. Carole gained her Trinity Arts Awards adviser status after a period of training and will be working closely with SBBA and NYBBS as their new Trinity Champion to deliver, manage and assure accreditation of the Arts Awards. Carole is thrilled to be taking on this new role in Scottish brass banding. “This is a unique and exciting development for the young brass musicians attending the NYBBS course,” she said. “As well as expanding their knowledge and understanding of the arts, the scheme boosts children's creativity, curiosity, confidence and communication skills.” The NYBBS summer course is supported by grant funding from Creative Scotland through its Youth Music Initiative.
