Joshua Parkhill appointed at Kinneil

Joshua Parkhill has been appointed as the new resident conductor of Unison Kinneil Band where he will work closely with musical director Raymond Tennant. Born in Ayrshire, Joshua studied trombone at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and graduated this year with a 1st Class Honours degree. He has already played with some impressive ensembles such as the Dalmellington and Reg Vardy bands, the World Youth Brass Band, Sibelius Orchestra, RSNO and many Salvation Army ensembles.

Earlier this year, he was a semi-finalist in the European Solo Championships in Malmo, Sweden. Joshua is the current musical director of Brass Sounds Inverclyde whom he led to a very impressive win in the 4th Section at the Scottish Championships last year, following up with a podium position in the 3rd Section this year. In addition to conducting BSI, Joshua has worked with bands including Lochgelly, Dunaskin Doon and Kilmarnock Concert Brass.

When not playing or conducting Joshua is passionate about widening access and participation to music through his work with Live Music Now Scotland and the Slideshow Trombone Quartet. A spokesperson for Kinneil Band stated, “We are delighted to be working with one of Scotland’s most exciting young musicians, a man who is full of fresh new ideas and enthusiasm.”
