Scottish Challenge becomes own choice Contest

Following discussions with a number of bands and between members of the Scottish Brass Band Association events committee, it has been decided that the Band Supplies Scottish Challenge on Saturday 18 November will revert to an own-choice test piece contest. With few own-choice contests around in Scotland, some bands were concerned that the event was restricting their music selection with the previous stipulation for just Gilbert Vinter compositions, especially in lower sections.

The adjudicators for the Scottish Challenge, to be held in Perth Concert Hall, will be John Doyle and Owen Farr. Contest controller Peter Fraser explained, “We have listened to the feedback of our members and decided that the own-choice route, which has been tried and tested successfully in the past, is the way to go again this year. Although the closing date is 1 October, an expression of interest by the middle of August would be appreciated.”

Entry forms for the Scottish Challenge are available on SBBA website: https://www.sbba.org.uk/events?event=190 and entries are now invited. Any enquiries should be addressed to Peter Fraser at fraserp3@virginmedia.com
