Cory Boost with Double Signing

Cory Band has signed two new players to its euphonium and baritone section. Joining Glyn Williams on euphonium will be Dan Thomas who made a spectacular name for himself as the Principal Euphonium of the Black Dyke Band before relocating earlier this year to take up new employment. He will rejoin his mother (Sue Thomas, 1st Baritone) and father (Chris Thomas, 1st Trombone) in the band after short stints with Cory previously in 2010 and 2014.

Cory has also recently welcomed Joel Collier to play 2nd Baritone. Joel has relocated from the USA and is a graduate of James Madison University, with which Cory Band has a strong connection. Until recently Joel was an Assistant Professor of Music at Allen University in Columbia, South Carolina and he is also known for his brass band compositions.

Speaking about the new appointments, Musical Director Philip Harper said: “I’m absolutely delighted to have secured these two excellent players for the band. To bring a player of the calibre of Dan Thomas into the band really needs no further comment from me and I’m pleased that he’ll be able to make a permanent link up now with his parents in the band. I’m thrilled to be able to add another Thomas family star to the roll-call!

“Joel won through the extremely hard-fought audition process and his commitment to make a successful transatlantic relocation has been impressive. He has already been an asset to Cory Band on the concert stage where he has played 2nd euphonium to Glyn. We wish him the best of luck in building his new life in the UK, and I’m certainly pleased to welcome another composer into the fold.”
