Free Euphonium Focus Day

Euphonium Foundation UK, in collaboration with the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama will present a special 'Euphonium Focus Day' in Cardiff on 27th May from 10am-4pm.

The event will be led by a trio of euphonium luminaries with Euphonium Foundation UK founder Dr David Childs joined by his father Dr Robert Childs and fellow Besson Artist Steven Mead. The day is completely free of charge and open to players of all ages and abilities from beginner to advanced. The focus will be on music making and tutoring, through a variety of fun classes and ensemble opportunities, with the day culminating in an informal performance featuring participants, artists and the Euphonium Ensemble of the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in the Dora Stoutzker Hall.

Commenting on the initiative David Childs explained, “I'm looking forward to working alongside two icons of euphonium playing and teaching to present this first educational event for Euphonium Foundation UK. I set up the Foundation fifteen years ago to help commission substantial new works for euphonium and raise the instrument's profile. Great progress has been made, but it seems there are fewer euphonium players today, particularly at grass roots level, so I want to broaden the foundation's objectives to support and encourage players of all ages and abilities. This Euphonium Focus Day is the first of several exciting projects we have planned for the future. We're extremely grateful to the RWCMD and Besson for partnering with us for this event and we look forward to welcoming euphonium and baritone players of all ages and abilities later this month.”
