Success for Sydney City

 

The 2023 Australian National Championships took place in the city of Newcastle, New South Wales over the weekend. The competing bands, who were on fine form, could be heard in Newcastle City Hall, Civic Theatre and Conservatorium of Music. The Division A National Champion Title was won by Sydney City Brass, under the leadership of MD Jason Katsikaris. The band gained convincing wins in the hymn tune and set work portions of the contest, with eventual runners-up, Brisbane Excelsior ran them extremely close taking the spoils in the own choice and march sections. Both bands ended amassed an impressive 581 points, giving them a 5 point margin over third placed Darebin City, but Sydney took the spoils owing to the band’s performance of Jared McCunnie’s ‘Seige’.
