NYBBS Easter Course

On Tuesday 11th April 60 young brass musicians will be heading to the hills of Perthshire for the annual National Youth Brass Band of Scotland (NYBBS) Easter course. The musical director for the course will be Ian Porthouse, working with Alan Fernie and John Boax for the sectional rehearsals. The four-day event will take place at the Strathallan School in village of Forgandenny.

The residential course is funded by Creative Scotland to provide an opportunity for members of the Senior and Reserve bands to come together for supplementary brass tuition in addition to the summer course. But it will not be all about the classroom. Fun extra-curricular activities are being organised which will include swimming sessions and the usual Easter NYBBS Has Got Talent!

The music for the course will be taken from a list which includes ‘American Barndance’ (arr. Goff Richards), ‘Get Happy’ (arr. Leigh Baker), ‘Cry of the Celts’ (Peter Graham), ‘Garland 2 – Rainbow’ (Allen arr. Austin), ‘Garland 3 - That's Entertainment’ (Schwartz arr. Austin), ‘Funky Brass’ (Otto Schwarz), ‘Ar Lan Y Mor’ (Gavin Higgins) and ‘Partita for Band - Postcards from Home’ (Philip Wilby). The course will conclude with a concert in the Strathallan School theatre on Friday 14th April at 3pm.
