Scottish Open Win for Cooperation Band

In the grand setting of the Perth Concert Hall, adjudicators John Doyle and Glyn Williams were treated to 19 fine band performances, as the second part of the Scottish Open Championships got underway yesterday (26th November). Drawn last it was The Cooperation Band’s performance of Simon Dobson’s ‘The Journey of the Lone Wolf’, under the direction of Mike Fowles that found ultimate favour with the judges, who awarded them the slimmest of victories over reigning champions Whitburn. Chris Flynn also picked up the prize for Best Euphonium, while Best Instrumentalist went to Phoebe Mallinson (flugel) of City of Bradford Band. Rainford and MD David Thornton completed the podium places.

The Youth Championships will take place later today and a full report of the event will appear in the next issue of BBW magazine.
