National Win for Oberösterreich

There was much to celebrate for Brass Band Oberösterreich on the weekend as the band not only secured its sixth Austrian National title, but also booked its place at the 2024 European Championships in Palanga. The 2017 winner Brass Band Fröschl Hall were a close second and defending champion R.E.T. Brass Band completed the positions with third place.

The adjudicating panel of Dr Robert Childs, Prof. Thomas Clamour and Oliver Waespi were treated to three excellent performances of the set work ‘Journey into Freedom’ by Eric Ball, before hearing Peter Graham’s ‘Dynasty’ twice and ‘No-Man’s Land’ by Thierry Deleruyelle as the own choice selections. It was Oberösterreich’s superb performance of ‘Dynasty’ that secured the band’s victory, with principal cornet Christoph Kaindlstorfer also taking  the 'Best Soloist' award.

Although there was just the one band in the First Division, Brass Band Vorarlberg delivered an assured performances of Eric Ball's 'Tournament for Brass' and own-choice selection 'Journey to the Centre of the Earth' to meet the standard to be awarded the title.
