Fundraising Success for Drum and Brass

Funding will help to deliver after-school music clubs in deprived areas facing socio-economic challenges - and you could do the same. Some fantastic news has come in from Brass Bands England (BBE), which has announced its first successful grant application via its Fundraising Service. Drum and Brass, based in Leicester, used the BBE Fundraising Service to support a project grant application to Arts Council England in June. The organisation has now successfully been awarded £37,164 from the Arts Council for their Inclusive Orchestra music project.

Drum and Brass is a not-for-profit music making organisation based in Leicester focused on establishing regular spaces which bring people together to make music, advocating to dismantle barriers to musical progression and supporting the sector with a music-making network and CPD. The Drum and Brass team Davina, Kim, Hari, Sim and Julie commented, “Drum and Brass are really grateful for the invaluable help of Brass Bands England's Fundraising Service in securing a grant across 18 months from Arts Council England for our Inclusive Orchestra music project. The funding will help us to deliver after-school music clubs in deprived areas facing socio-economic challenges. Our Drum and Brass music directory will help put inclusive, diverse, vibrant music-making at the heart of our communities and new podcasts will capture the voices of people who have been previously excluded from musical discourse. The result will be to create a more inclusive, musical environment in Leicester. Without Brass Bands England's expertise this project would not have happened."

BBE’s Fundraising Service was launched in January 2022 and has seen advice, coaching and grant writing services provided to a number of BBE member organisations. With a number of pending applications currently, BBE is hopeful that it will be announcing more successes very soon. Any BBE members interested in finding out more about the service can book in a 1:2:1 call with BBE’s Fundraising Manager Pamela Johnson or find out more on the BBE website. The Fundraising Service has been made possible thanks to grant funding from The Backstage Trust.
