UniBrass Band Camp 2022
UniBrass is delighted to announce that Band Camp is back for 2022. Designed to be different, Band Camp is a brass band summer school like no other, specifically designed for students and those aged 18-25. The next Band Camp runs from Wednesday 24 - Monday 29 August 2022. Led by esteemed music director David Thornton (Grimethorpe Colliery Band, RNCM), Band Camp is a five-night residential summer school with a UniBrass twist!
In true UniBrass style, there will be a balance of rehearsals, sectionals, and workshops with excursions, outdoor activities and plenty of evening entertainment. Performances will take place at a number of locations across Sheffield and West Yorkshire, including a local informal concert, a tourist attraction, and a final course-closing concert in the magnificent Sheffield Cathedral. Participants will also enjoy other musical activities, such as conducting workshops, Q&A sessions, and more - as well as non-musical activities. Guest tutors will be announced soon.
Band Camp is for any brass or percussion players aged 18-25 at the time of the course, or those over 25 in higher education. You don’t have to be a current university student or at a university that competes in UniBrass. If you’re aged 18-25 you are welcome to attend. This includes school leavers pre-uni, current students, and those not involved in higher education. This year Band Camp is even bigger and there are spaces for 50 brass players and 5 percussionists.
Band Camp 2022 will be running from Wednesday 24th - Monday 29th August, and will once again be based at Hesley Wood Scout Activity Centre, near Sheffield. You’ll have the option to stay in bunkhouse dormitory accommodation or to camp if you prefer. You will need to bring your own tent and camping equipment if you choose to camp. If you camp, you can store your instrument inside. Bunkhouse rooms will be allocated on arrival, but where possible groups will be kept together. The venue is easily accessible by car or train. There’s plenty of parking and Band Camp can pick you up from Chapeltown station if you need!
Band Camp 2022 will cost £200 for bunkhouse accommodation or £175 for camping. Most meals are included in these rates and provided on site. UniBrass are constantly monitoring the Covid-19 situation and working within guidelines to ensure the safety of all involved in Band Camp. Ahead of the course the most up-to-date Covid requirements and information will be communicated to participants. All bookings include a maximum £10 non-refundable deposit in the event of cancellation due to Covid restrictions as there may be some costs associated with preparing this event that are unrecoverable. However, UniBrass Band Camp will do its utmost to return these funds if possible.
