Wilby celebrated by the British Army

The British Army Brass Band will be celebrating the 70th birthday of composer Philip Wilby by performing in concert at St Peter’s Church, Harrogate on Thursday 11thApril. The band will be directed by Capt. Brendan Wheeler, Director of Music of the Band of the Royal Armoured Corps and will feature the very best musicians that British Army brass banding has to offer.


The programme will include significant works for band including Wilby’s ‘Masquerade’and ‘Revelation’ test pieces. Lighter works such as ‘Scipio – Fanfare & Fugue’and ‘The Day Thou Gavest’ will also feature and tenor horn soloist Ailsa Russell will perform ‘Fantasie Concertante’. The grand finale will even showcase the talents of the composer himself and Philip Wilby joins the ensemble on the church organ for a performance of ‘The Pilgrim’s Progress’.
