Bands to feature again in Welsh Proms

On Wednesday July 24th at 7:30pm brass bands will once again take to the stage at St. David’s Hall in Cardiff as part of the Welsh Proms season. The massed bands of Lewis-Merthyr Band and RAF St Athan will be joined by Males voices from Pontarddulais Male Choir, Cor Meibion Bro Taf and Cwmbach Male Choir along with organist Robert Court. As always the event will be conducted by Owain Arwel Hughes CBE with Welsh Radio celebrity Beverley Humphreys presenting the evening.

Promotional material from the Proms encourages audience members to, “Delight in the passion of Cwm Rhondda and Tydi a Roddaist, the spectacle of Widor’s Toccata, J.S. Bach’s Toccata & Fugue and more, in this rousing evening of great Welsh hymns, opera choruses and favourite classical works.”
 
The concert is part of the 34th season of the Welsh Proms, which takes place from July 20thto 27th.  In addition to the Brass and Voices Prom the 2019 season features a magnificent week long array of performances featuring the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, Welsh National Opera Orchestra,Welsh Proms Festival Chorus and more!Solo performers and presenters featuring include celebrity newscaster Huw Edwards, the renowned soprano Susan Bullock CBE, BBC Wales' Beverley Humphreys, Wicked star Sophie Evans, and the inestimable 'Gio Compario' himself, BBC Wales' Wynne Evans.

The 2019 Welsh Proms will mark:the 50th anniversary of the 1969 lunar landings,the 75th anniversary of the 1944 D-Day landings, the 150th anniversary of the passing of Hector Berliozand the landmark birthdays of Welsh composers:Sir Karl Jenkins (75), Mervyn Burtch (90)and Arwel Hughes (110).
