Simon Gresswell takes the baton at Yorkshire Imps

The Yorkshire Imperial Metals Urqhuart Travel Band is delighted to announce the appointment of Simon Gresswell as Musical Director with immediate effect. Simon has enjoyed an extremely successful playing career, including stints at Brighouse and Rastrick, Black Dyke, the Fairey band and Yorkshire Building Society. More recently he has been concentrating his musical efforts on conducting with considerable success.

Following a particularly successful tenure with the Enderby band in the Midlands, with whom Simon enjoyed much musical development and contesting success, he has been looking for a new challenge and Yorkshire Imps are delighted that this has come at such a time to ensure his appointment to the role.

A spokesperson from the band stated, “The band are delighted to have a musician of such experience and skill joining us at the helm. Simon has a wealth of knowledge and expertise to bring to the band and we hope that he can help lead us to as much success as he has already had with his previous bands. We’re currently working on signings and are building on the momentum which has seen some key seats filled with some talented players already this year to really strengthen the band, and see working with Simon as a big draw for perspective players.”

Commenting on his appointment Simon said, “I’m delighted to have been asked to take up the post of Musical Director with the world famous Yorkshire Imperial Band. As a youngster, Yorkshire Imps were, for me, one of the very best brass bands in the world and I’m keen to build on that heritage and try to develop the band to a similar stature. It is evident that the band has struggled over the last few years and now the time has come to rebuild this once great band.  In order to do this, I will be looking to attract new and former players to join us on this exciting journey.”
