National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain
The National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain will meet at Repton School from 28th July to 4th August for their 2018 summer course. The band is extremely fortunate to have the opportunity to work with the LSO’s Dudley Bright as Guest Conductor, in addition to learning from world class Artistic Director, Bramwell Tovey.
This year’s guest soloist David Childs needs no real introduction – he is an internationally acclaimed euphonium virtuoso, not to mention tutor and past member of the NYBB, who will no doubt delight the band and audiences once again this summer!
As always Mr Tovey has selected some real gems for the young musicians to perform including Gregson’s Dance and Arias and Salute to Youth by Gilbert Vinter as well as works of a more reflective nature such as, Lord of the Sea, Wonderous Cross and the popular A Little Prayer. This course the superb tutorial team will include: Paul Young, Tracey Redfearn, John Berryman, Ailsa Russell, Christopher Jeans, John Maines, Glyn Williams, Nick Etheridge and Andrea Price. The band will certainly have a busy week preparing for the end of course concerts, which will take place on 3rd August at Repton School and on 4th August at the Albert Hall, Nottingham.
In addition to the end of course concerts the band will also host its usual open day on 31st July. The event is primarily aimed at Brass and Percussion players aged 8-18, however all are welcome.
Commenting on the event Philip Biggs said, “You will enjoy a master class from our fantastic tutors, visit sectionals and have the chance to join the band for a full band rehearsal. Attendees also have the option to audition for the NCBBGB or NYBBGB on the day.
“We always love the open days and recommend them to anyone who is interested in finding out what the National Youth Brass Band is really like. Anyone wishing to visit should contact johnmaines48@btinternet.com to book a place.”
