NYBBW residency underway

Talented young performers from all over Wales met at Trinity St David University in Carmarthen on Sunday for the summer residency of the National Youth Brass Band of Wales. The youngsters have begun work on challenging repertoire to be featured in a trio of concerts in Neath, Newtown and Cardiff this weekend.

The course is led by Cory’s M.D. Philip Harper and features Black Dyke’s Principal euphonium and NYBBW alumni Daniel Thomas. Commenting on the week so far, first time cornet tutor Anna Hughes-Williams said, “What an amazing three days tutoring on the National Youth Brass Band of Wales. Thanks to Alex James for giving me the opportunity, she is so passionate about the band and did an excellent job pulling it all together. It was an honour to pass on my experience and knowledge to these hard working, dedicated, committed and talented Welsh musicians. I’m really looking forward to hearing the band in the concert in St David’s Church, Neath on Friday.”
